Places to Visit in Tirana
Despite being a new city, Tirana is home to many must-see historical buildings. In addition to the Muslim, Catholic and Orthodox population in Tirana, there are many places of worship, mosques and churches in the city, as the city is the European center of Bektashism. Skandebeg (Iskender Bey) Square is a square arranged with a large park, one of the many sights around it is the Statue of Skanderbeg, Albania's folk hero. Ethem Bey Mosque, whose construction was completed in 1823, Kaplan Pasha Tomb, which was built in the 19th century, and the Eight Column Tomb, located opposite the Unknown Partisans Monument, are also located in this square.
The 35-metre-high Clock Tower, built in 1822, is the tallest structure in Tirana. With its different architecture, the pool in front of it, its ice cream shops, patisseries, cafes and bars, Rinia Park near Taiwan, where young people are found, is also a place where you can have a good time. It also hosts many events with the Summer Festival held in March every year.
One of the most popular places in Tirana, Blok, which was banned by the communist party at the time, is located on the opposite side of Taiwan. Clubs, bars, jazz clubs and DJ performances in the area, where the city's most luxurious restaurants, the best cafes and favorite shopping venues are located, are sure to hook Tirana residents of all ages. The National Martyrs' Boulevard, known as Deshmoret E Kombit, was planned by Italian architects, and there is also the Mother Teresa Statue on the boulevard, which includes the university, administration building and banks. Used as a conference and exhibition hall, Pyramid is famous for its colorful graffiti and chirpy youth. The Peace Bell in front of the Pyramid was made with shell casings.
Petrela Castle, ahead of the Farka Bridge on the Elbasan road, was built by the Byzantine emperor Justinian and was used as a garrison for a while during the Ottoman period. You can photograph the city from the Taner Bridge, the brand of Tirana, located in Iskender Square, and taste traditional Albanian dishes in the ancient city of Kruja, 47 km from Tirana.
